Big lake, small towns.
Lake
Norman was created in 1963 when Duke Power Company dammed the
Catawba River to fuel its hydroelectric power plants. The past two decades have seen a development explosion of luxury and middle-class housing for four historic towns – Huntersville, Davidson (home of Davidson College), Mooresville, and Cornelius.
Lake Norman has 520 acres of shoreline that spans four counties: Mecklenburg County, Iredell County, Catawba County and Lincoln County. It is considered the larger of the two major lakes that attract Charlotte metro homebuyers: Lake Norman and Lake Wylie. Lake Norman offers many surrounding shops, waterfront resturants, and upscale retail and multi-million dollar homes. Lake Wylie (located 13 miles south of Charlotte) is less developed.
